What’s Your “Why?”

As a 40-year-old mom to Caleb, my almost 15-year-old son, I can tell you he’s my “Why?

When Caleb turned two, I looked at his birthday pictures and felt disheartened. Instead of cherishing the moment, all I saw was my obesity and the misery it brought. I was sitting on the sidelines of his life, plagued by health issues: gallbladder failure, severe back pain, acid reflux, migraines, depression, and constant illness. My self-esteem was so low that I had no friends, worked over fifty hours a week, and endured an abusive marriage for many years.

Looking at my two-year-old son, I decided to make a change. I wanted to be around for many more birthdays and to be active in his life. One healthy change at a time, I started my journey. They say it takes about 21 days for a habit to form, and that’s what I did. Slowly but surely, the process worked.

As of today, I have lost a total of 92.7 pounds. I started my journey at 232.5 pounds and my lowest weight is 139.8 pounds. While I fluctuate a few pounds, I am happy and healthiest in the lower 140’s.

While I have lost over 90 pounds, I gained so much more:

Lifelong friends who became family, health, confidence, happiness, freedom, love, acceptance, peace, and joy…

Whether you’re just starting out, long for confidence in yourself, or happen to be celebrating your own health and fitness achievements, there’s a place for you here. I don’t care if you have nothing to lose or if you’re losing your mind one kid at a time. I embrace the flaws, the brokenness, and the messy. Whether you have 100 friends or none, you are welcome here just as you are. You are uniquely you, and that’s what makes you incredible. ❤️

I’m excited to help you reach your goals and do life together.

When I hit a plateau after losing 60 pounds, I discovered dance fitness. I started attending classes at my local church, standing in the back corner alone. I knew no one, but the music was fun. Gradually, I improved, moved up a few rows, and realized I could see the leader’s steps better. That was a game changer.

As my confidence grew, I found myself on the front row, making friends. The idea of becoming an instructor crossed my mind but I was initially discouraged. However, I continued to pray and pursue my passion. Secretly, I went to Atlanta, became an instructor, and two weeks later, the leader who had discouraged me announced her move to California. Suddenly, there was an opening in our program! I began teaching in 2014 and haven’t looked back since.

I hope you decide to follow along here and let’s share the journey together! Make sure to subscribe to the blog so you don’t miss a post or follow along on social media. In the comment section below, let me know where you’re joining me from. ❤️

With love,
